Hammonton Fire Dept 11th Annual Christmas Parade

The Elwood Fire Company participated in the 11th Annual Hammonton Fire Department's Christmas Parade on Dec. 13 in downtown Hammonton.

Dozens of fire and emergency apparatus, specially decorated for the holidays, paraded through the downtown streets before continuing to the Hammonton Fire Station No. 1 on Line Street for a post-parade block party.

Parade Delights Hundreds

Hundreds of people lined Bellevue Avenue on Saturday for the annual Hammonton Fire Department Christmas Parade. Crowds were four to five people deep for the event, which featured dozens of fire and emergency vehicles, performance groups and, of course, an appearance by Santa Claus. The Hammonton High School marching band played "Here Comes Santa Claus" as it made its way through town. The "North Pole Fire Department" was among the crowd favorites at this year's parade.

HAMMONTON -- Hundreds of people turned out Saturday night for the 11th annual Hammonton Fire Department Christmas Parade.

Despite temperatures hovering at 23 degrees, the crowd stood four to five people deep in some spots along Bellevue Avenue as decorated fire and emergency vehicles, dance troops and marching bands made their way through town.

The parade culminated with Santa Claus riding atop a Hammonton fire truck. He led everyone to a block party at the fire station on Front Street.

"It was a great night. A lot of people came out to enjoy this totally free event," said parade chairman John Lyons.

Prizes were awarded to the best-decorated fire vehicles. Farmington won first place, Cecil finished second and Nesco finished third.

Awards also were presented to non-fire vehicle groups.

Paul Morris Dancexplosion. won first place, Victory Bible Church finished second and the

Hammonton Hawks Cheerleaders finished third.

First-place finishers won $250. Second-place finishers received $125, and third-place winners received $75.

Henry Lago of Bellevue Avenue received a plaque. His home was chosen as the best decorated along the route.

The Hammonton News and Adams, Rehmann and Heggan, the town's engineering firm, sponsored this year's parade.
