Thomas Antonio, 19, of Hammonton was driving east on Third Street at 10:40 p.m. with a passenger when he failed to stop at Bellevue Avenue, police said.

A dump truck being driven south by Mark Elum, 19, of Bridgeton, struck Antonio's car in the side, police said. The car crumpled, trapping Antonio and his passenger inside. Elum was uninjured.

Emergency workers cut through the wreckage and removed the pair. Antonio was taken to Kessler Memorial Hospital, where he was charged with DWI, treated and released, police said. The name of the passenger was not released, but police said the victim was airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City and is in stable condition. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Their speeds at the time of the accident were not known Thursday evening.
