Fire Destroys Condominium Unit

VENTNOR - Fire destroyed a unit in the Dream Bay condominium complex Tuesday afternoon, but there were no injuries, a fire official said.
The fire started at about 4:30 p.m. in a first-floor unit in the 700 block of North Somerset Place, and no one was home at the time, said fire Lt. Tom O'Brien. Firefighters arrived to find the unit fully involved in flames and fire blowing out the windows to the rear. A general alarm was called, and about 25 firefighters responded to battle the flames, O'Brien said. Firefighters from Margate staffed the station.
The unit was a total loss, and the apartment directly upstairs suffered some smoke damage. The next-door unit may have also been damaged, O'Brien said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
