Vans Crash in Hamilton Township; One Person Killed, Eight Injured

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - One person was killed and eight others injured in a two-vehicle crash at Bears Head Road and Estelle Avenue on Monday morning. Police aren't releasing the names of the deceased and the injured pending notification of their families.

However, police said the accident occurred when 20-year-old Melanie M. Aviles, who was driving a van with a number of passengers south on Estelle Avenue and failed to stop at the intersection of Bears Head Road at 10 a.m. hit another van driven by 31-year-old Jesse S. McFarland, who was traveling east on Bears Head Road.
Police provided no other identification about Aviles and McFarland.
One passenger in Aviles' van was pronounced dead at the scene. Six were taken to South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland and Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton. One passenger was flown to the Regional Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus in Atlantic City.
McFarland was treated at Kessler for injuries and then released. Rescue units from Hamilton, Weymouth and Buena Vista townships responded to the scene, along with detachments from the Mizpah, Dorothy and Milmay fire companies.
The accident remains under investigation by local police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Fatal Accident Unit.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - Township police on Tuesday identified the person killed in a two-van crash on Bears Head Road on Monday as Allen Hutchinson, 55, of the Milmay section of Buena Vista Township. Police also identified the other people injured in the crash at Bears Head Road and Estelle Avenue here, but provided no other details regarding the accident.
Authorities said the crash remains under investigation by local police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Fatal Accident Unit.
On Monday, police said the accident occurred when 20-year-old Melanie M. Police identified the remaining people in Aviles' van as Marybeth Adams, 39, of Marmora; Josh Ang, 24, of Ocean View; Jesse Wilson Jr., 50, of Seaville; Rhonda Ruga, 36, of Dorothy; Ed Thompson, 66, of Eldora; Justin Clary, 21, of Seaville; and John Holt, 41, of Seaville.
