HAMMONTON - Two people were injured Monday evening, one of them seriously, in a three-car pileup on Route 206, police said.
Two pickup trucks were driving north on Route 206 at 5:11 p.m. when one stopped to make a left turn onto Waterford Road and was rear-ended by the one behind it, police said. The impact pushed the first truck into the southbound lanes and into the path of a commercial garbage truck, resulting in a second collision.
The driver of the pickup that was attempting to turn was seriously injured and was airlifted to the Trauma Unit of AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, police said. The driver of the second pickup suffered less serious injuries and was taken to William B. Kessler Memorial Hospital. The driver and passengers of the garbage truck were not hurt.
The names of the drivers were not released, pending the notification of relatives, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck that rear-ended the one in front of it was issued a summons for careless driving, police said.
