ATLANTIC CITY

Four people were displaced Monday night when a bedroom caught fire in their home on Kentucky Avenue, fire officials said.

A juvenile called 911 at about 9:07 p.m. to report the fire in the single-family house in the 500 block of Kentucky Avenue, said Battalion One Chief Gary Holmes. Firefighters and police had to rescue one 70-year-old man from the building, and the other three residents got out on their own.

The man was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Holmes said. No one else was hurt.

The bedroom sustained fire, water and smoke damage, and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage, Holmes said. The American Red Cross was making living arrangements for the occupants. A pet snake was returned to the house and safely secured until the owners can make plans for its care.
The block of Kentucky Avenue was closed to traffic for about half an hour while firefighters battled the flames and cleared the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious, Holmes said.
