EGG HARBOR CITY
Man still hospitalized after being hit by car
A 70-year-old man remained in intensive care Sunday after being struck by a car, but his injuries do not appear life-threatening, police said.
Norman Elmer Corliss, of Egg Harbor City, suffered a broken collar bone and eye socket when he was hit by a car at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday while crossing Route 30 at Liverpool Avenue. He was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division.
The driver of the car, Susan Centrella, 65, of Stratford, Camden County, was not charged.
"It doesn't appear there was excessive speed, and there is no indication of alcohol being a factor," said Officer Mike Luko, who is investigating the accident.
Luko said it is unclear why Corliss was crossing the highway, although he lives nearby. Corliss was disoriented when he was interviewed by police in the hospital.
"He actually thought he fell down a flight of steps," Luko said.
