STONE HARBOR - An early morning fire destroyed two multimillion-dollar beach block homes on 104th Street Sunday and damaged a third.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 8 104th St. at about 12:30 a.m. after a woman walking her dog noticed the flames, Stone Harbor Fire Chief Roger Stanford said.

Typical of Stone Harbor in December, the streets were empty and all the beach block homes - being summer residences - were unoccupied.

Stanford said the fire spread to houses on both sides. One home, at 12 104th St., sustained significant damage that charred the building and gutted the inside, he said.

The other home, located at 2 104th St. on the beachfront, escaped major damage. Authorities are still investigating what caused the fire. No injuries were reported by firefighters who responded to the scene, despite the icy conditions.
