MULLICA TOWNSHIP - A 5-year-old girl was airlifted to a trauma unit in Camden on Monday afternoon after she was struck by a school bus on Moss Mill Road, police said.
The girl was walking with her mother at 3:55 p.m. on Moss Mill Road, just north of the border of Egg Harbor City, when she was struck by an eastbound school bus driven by Antoinette Bercthold, 43, said Lt. Paul Register. Berchtold was not the child's regular bus driver.
The child, whose name was not released, was airlifted to the pediatric trauma unit at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, Register said.
No charges have been filed, pending completion of the investigation by Detective Sgt. John Thompson, police said.
Moss Mill Road was closed between Heidelberg and Darmstadt avenues while the scene was cleared. The Elwood Fire Company also responded to the scene.
